The Cost of Compute: Billion-Dollar Chatbots
Silicon Valley generative AI startup Inflection AI has raised $1.3 billion in a bid to take on OpenAI’s ChatGPT with its AI personal assistant, Pi, which it plans to make available both directly to consumers and via an API. Pi is a “kind and supportive companion,” designed to offer “fast, relevant and helpful information and advice,” according to the company. It launched in May.

For those unfamiliar with Inflection AI, it is a business that aims at creating "personal AI for everyone." The company is widely known for its recently introduced Inflection-1 AI model, which powers the Pi chatbot. Although the AI model hasn't yet reached the level of ChatGPT or Google's LaMDA models, reports suggest that Inflection-1 performs well on "common sense" tasks, making it much more suitable for applications such as personal assistance.

Det var vi den sjunde årliga Samsung Foundry Forum som Samsung lättade lite på locket över företagets planer för den kommande 6G-tekniken. Man håller bland annat på att arbeta med att ta fram teknik för 5nm Radio Frequency (RF), vilket kan jämföras med den befintliga RF-tekniken som ligger på 14nm. Att gå ner till 5nm ska enligt Samsung själva medföra en ökning av energieffektiviteten med 40 procent och en halvering av hur stor yta som kretsarna behöver jämfört med 14nm

EU investerar i testanläggningar för AI
EU-kommissionen har meddelat att fyra anläggningar för tester och utvärdering av artificiell intelligens kommer att byggas. Arbetet med anläggningarna ska redan vara igång, och fokus för de olika anläggningarna kommer att vara jordbruk, sjukvårdsdata, smart tillverkning och smarta städer. Det rapporterar Computer Sweden. Anläggningarna beräknas kosta mellan 43 och 65 miljarder euro.
