När Googles VD Sundar Pichai tog plats i vittnesbåset avslöjade han bland annat en del om hur det fungerar med de olika tillverkarnas arbete med säkerhetsuppdateringar för operativsystemet, och varför olika OEM-tillverkare släpper olika många uppdateringar. Föga förvånande handlar det om pengar, och enligt Pichai har Google ekonomiska incitament för att få OEM-tillverkare att uppdatera sina mobiler. Företag som håller sina enheter uppdaterade med de senaste säkerhetsuppdateringarna får nämligen en högre andel av intäkterna från Googles tjänster än de som inte gör det. Fler uppdateringar innebär alltså mer pengar för tillverkaren. Slutsatsen av Pichais uttalande blir att för tillverkare med få användare blir det dyrare att anpassa och publicera en säkerhetsuppdatering, än vad de ökade intäkterna från användarna ger tillbaka.
