Demand for European data centers is skyrocketing, and providers can’t keep up

European data centers failed to keep pace with skyrocketing demand for services over the last year, new research shows, despite the building boom fueled by the industry’s largest customers. Analysis from CBRE found there was 601MW of take-up across the 14 largest markets in Europe in 2023. Unfortunately, though, just 561MW of new supply was delivered during the same period. This marks the second time in the space of five years that data center demand has exceeded supply in Europe, CBRE noted, raising concerns about a potential future bottleneck for organizations across the region.
